Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007)  is a powerful, extensive and ubiquitous platform not just from the vertical application areas (CMS, EDRMS, Search, etc) in which it excels, but also because it is such an extensible and flexible platform. In fact, as a .Net and SQL based solution and closely integrated into the Microsoft server and development framework, it is hard to see where it stops being a software application in its own right and becomes a rich and rapid development environment.

Since the first beta version of SharePoint, whether it’s the full MOSS 2007 product or Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), we’ve seen it as a compelling platform upon which almost any software solution can be built. Not only does this result in a large part of any functional requirements set being delivered, but also helps to reduce development cost and risk. It also results in a seamlessly joined up platform where these solutions are integrated with an Intranet, website or other MOSS 2007 based applications.

Our bespoke development practice continues with many of our projects now developed upon SharePoint and several previous solutions being migrated across. Where these solutions are Government related we’re packaging and releasing them as templates through Microsoft programmes such as the Citizen Services Platform.
